How to Get Younger Looking Eyes with Makeup

I think that my favorite part of the human body is the eyes. They say the eyes are the windows to the soul and I absolutely believe that. If you want to catch someone’s attention, you do it with eye contact. So for this entry I really wanted to focus on applying makeup to the eyes. I think this is a topic that for older women isn’t talked about enough. We see plenty of products and tutorials geared towards the younger generations but I sit back and wonder, what about us? I have experimented and tried many different makeup brands and techniques and I found some that I think will really help women bring out not only natural beauty but also keep your eyes healthy and skin firm.

First let’s think about all of the latest trends out there….

You have the smokey eye, the cat eye, the natural eye, the sunkissed eye, the dramatic eye, yadda yadda yadda.

Jennifer Anniston

These looks are fabulous but the trend in makeup is really shifting towards a healthier, natural look. Now if you are like me you are into more coverage. I love the natural appearance, but I don’t want to feel like I have no makeup on what so ever.  Whatever your preference, you always want to start with a great foundation that is long lasting, you don’t want to get through half the day and have to reapply your makeup. Now that we are focusing on the eyes, you want to use a subtle blush that has a light pink tone to it. Something that shows up but isn’t going to overpower the eyes.

Next, you are going to start on your eyes. THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PART.

EYEBROWS: Make sure you have waxed, plucked, or trimmed eyebrows to the shape that you want. The eyebrows frame the face so go with a natural arch.

EYE SHADOW: Now you want to pick a very subtle brown shade and place in the crease of your eye. Blend the color in so it starts to fade to a lighter, more natural tone.

EYELINER: Use either a brown or black eyeliner but remember to use lightly.

The most important step in your eyes is the mascara. You want to use lengthening, NOT PLUMPING, mascara. Apply 2-3 coats of mascara and allow each coat to dry halfway before starting a new coat.

Finish off this look with either a nude or soft pink lip and you are natural and fabulous!

Tips for Looking Younger #4: Thicker Eyebrows

We all remember having some sort of eyebrow crisis in our lives.

Whether it was over plucking or having half of our eyebrow waxed off, we have all been there. But one way to really look younger is to keep your eyebrows a big thicker. Now I am not saying look like a caveman, but leave a little bit more on the arch and ends of your eyebrow. This will give your face a more dominant look and focus the attention on your eyes and avoid those fine lines and wrinkles.

Now I know some of you have the sparse eyebrows but there is a simple fix to that. You can fill in those spaces by using a brow pencil or a dark eye shadow that matches your eyebrow color. Now if you are unsure how to create a thicker, younger eyebrow visit a makeup artist to show you how to create this look. Remember that you are going for a natural look here so use short natural strokes and avoid overarching because this will only make you look older! THINK ELIZABETH TAYLOR! Complete this look and you are one young hot momma!

Tips for Looking Younger #3: Bright Eyes

As we get older we start to get less and less sleep. The first thing people see when they look at us is our eyes. For as long as I can remember I have had to wear some type of concealer.

My favorite product right now for under eye circles Dior’s SkinFlash Radiance Booster Pen. This is the Mecca of all under eye products. This helps bring out the collagen and allows the natural light to reflect off of your skin in a way that allows those dark circles to be invisible.

Another great product is the Teamine Eye Cream. It is also another product I swear by that really puts the focus on your eyes and not the bags or dark circles underneath. After using both of these products I noticed an all around skin difference and had many compliments on my new refreshed look!

Tips for Looking Younger #2: Wear Blush

Such a simple yet essential part of the makeup process as WEARING BLUSH can make our skin and overall look go from drab to fab in seconds.

Applying the right shade of blush is key to looking younger. I love the NARS “Orgasm” shade because it works for EVERY SKIN TONE! Despite the name, this shade is ideal for the older woman because it goes on very sheer and you can determine how light or dark you would like to wear it. This shade is very versatile and can change your whole look with just a few strokes of a brush. So remember ladies, BLUSH IS BEST!

How to Wear RED

So I have received a lot of questions about red lipstick. Many of you think you cannot wear red lipstick because there is a rumor that it makes us look older. LIES!  A lot of older women such as Diane Keaton and Jamie Lee Curtis wear red lipstick and look fabulous!!! But still so many questions of how to wear it come around; many of you wonder how to wear it during the day or even at night and I think the one question on every woman’s mind is, “How do I wear red lipstick without making my teeth look yellow?Wearing a blue-red lipstick is like an optical illusion. It tricks your teeth into thinking they are a true white.

Another major issue is how to wear red lipstick during the day and the key to this look is SIMPLICITY. Wearing a very simple outfit is the only way to wear red in the daytime without looking cheap. Pick out your favorite pair of jeans or leggings and pair them with a basic tank (preferably white or black) and a boyfriend blazer, this will create a beautiful silhouette and put all of the focus on your face! Try to stick with black and white when wearing red lipstick! Remember simple, simple, simple!

Janet’s Makeover Transformation

This is Janet. She is my little 55 yr. old “Tom Boy”. She is extremely athletic and swims numerous times a week, and loves her football. Janet has an outrageous personality and loves a good time. Her figure is totally in shape and can wear anything, but straight lines in clothes are her thing. I wanted Janet to cut all of that hair as it was a bit too young at her age and she had the bangs of a 20 yr. old. She is a beautiful woman but wasn’t taking advantage of her looks. We shagged the hair, cut off 8 inches, highlights and lowlights and it gave her a warmer look next to her skin tone. Janet never wore any makeup to speak of, so we went a lot of MAC on her and brought out her beautiful eyes and gorgeous complexion. WOW! Now she looks sexy and feminine!
