JC Penney Got it RIGHT.

The news lately, related to fashion, has been nothing short of humorous and actually kind of sad. I thought regular news was terrible but the fashion industry is definitely taking the cake lately.

First there was the Adele and Karl Lagerfeld incident and now….One Million Moms and JcPenney are going at it. This is probably the most infuriating story I have heard in a while and it just shows you how narrow minded the people who make up this world are.

Ellen and JCPenny take on One Million Moms

As you all know, JcPenney is changing the whole look of their store and going for a new “fair and square” campaign. I was very excited about this. They have the President of Apple (the best marketing company in the world) on board working at JcPenney to change it completely to “America’s Store”. They have made a lot of amazing moves, and hiring Ellen Degeneres as their spokesperson was one of them. I mean this woman is remarkable! She has sold makeup, television, cars. You name it, Ellen can sell it. And to make JcPenney even more fit to her needs, it was Ellen’s first job! Penney’s made all the right moves right? Well according to the “know-it-alls” called One Million Moms, that couldn’t be further from the truth.

A sub-group of the AFA called “One Million Moms” has attempted to advance its hateful agenda against homosexuality. They have boycotted JcPenney and tried to create hype against the store and Ellen saying that it is insulting to the JcPenney customer by maintaining a professional relationship with her.

I mean look, this isn’t the Stone Age. I don’t care if you are pink polka dotted or love to dance naked to Janice Joplin. IT IS YOUR LIFE AND YOUR LIFE ONLY. I am sick and tired of these closed-minded people voicing their Neanderthal opinions and then backing it up with “well God said…” SHUT THE HELL UP ALREADY!

Judgment is apparent enough in our everyday lives. You walk down the street, someone judges you. You wear a sweater when it’s hot outside, someone judges you. You go to work, your boss judges you. You go to an interview, your work AND your appearance is judged. I mean can we get a little reprieve here?! Find the good and positive in people. The world is NOT all about making people like us – it is about embracing their differences and respecting that they have the courage enough to stand and say “Here I am. I am different.”

I cannot wait for the day when gays will finally be accepted as people. Not different. Not weird. But people.

JcPenney made a written statement saying they stand behind their decision to have Ellen as a spokesperson and will not be revoking that contract, even if it means losing “One Million Moms” (a group of 40,000) as their customers. Good for them. In an interview from this article, Ellen responded by saying, “They wanted to get me fired, and I’m proud and happy to say that JCPenney stuck by their decision to make me their spokesperson,” she says. “Which is great news for me because I also need some new crew socks.” HaHaHa!
