How to Wear Costume Earrings Over 40

As we get more mature, women especially who have been wearing earrings over the years will find that their earlobes will have lost their collagen and as a result may be a little flappy. After years, earrings do take a toll on your ears. For some women, the holes pierced in our ears are so stretched out that it may make your appearance like a cocker spaniel! Don’t get me wrong, it is the truth and I am not making fun of anyone!

I have had the opportunity to meet women who have had a plastic surgeon sewn up their earlobes because of it. However, for most of them, it just didn’t do any good. The most recent trend seems to be inserting collagen in their earlobes.

One of the huge mistakes that all women make is that they do not want to talk about things pertaining to this type of fashion.  This brings me to talking about the other option for damaged earlobes when a woman wants to wear costume earrings – clip on earrings!!

Clip earrings

Most women think that clip on earrings are something that their grandmothers would wear. You may think about pearls, a mink coat, and red lipstick and clip on earrings – all in the same sentence. However, believe it or not – if you found yourself in a boutique in Paris, it would be difficult to find anything else but an elegant and stylish clip on earring as your only choice. Why is that so? Well, the French people have made the investment of looking great at any age. The think that chic and fashionable should not only enjoyed by young people. French females do not give up on themselves just because they have gotten mature. Instead, they find any way to look and stay magnificent and amazing by choosing fashion that works for them.

Why clip earrings?

  • They fit the ear better
  • They look flattering
  • They will hide torn earlobes

What you should do?

Select the correct clip: either the small or wide metal bar or flap will work. The smaller ones, however, are harder to adjust and don’t have cushioned pads to protect your ears, so it would be wisest to choose the wide metal flaps instead because you can always add a pad to them and they also provide full earlobe coverage.

Consider what size and shape your earlobe is when purchasing clip on earrings. If your earlobes are small, then you may have to opt for the smaller clip; even if it is a drop earring. If you have an average sized earlobe, then you can work with any size clip on earring.

You should always try on your clip on earrings the same way you try on a pair of shoes. If you don’t find it comfortable, don’t buy it. However, you will have the option to adjust the ones that don’t fit comfortably.

Before going to bed, remove the earrings. Don’t yank them off. Remove them slowly. Open the back of your clip on earring before removing.

Shopping for earrings is one of the most fun things to do; especially with your girlfriend. You can ask each other how it looks on you and laugh about all the silly ones you may see in the store. So do shop in confidence!

Fashion trend: the long necklace

So I am sure most of you ladies look forward to seeing who wears what on the red carpet right? Well I know with my schedule I just can never seem to be in the right place at the right time to see it live, so I always go back to and check out what looks were hot each year. I gotta tell you ladies, this year I was less than impressed  BUT, the one thing that caught my eye and seemed uniquely timeless were the necklaces.

Now normally we see either the simple diamond necklace or we see the big statement necklaces, but not this year! This year it is all about the long necklaces. This style has been around for ages and ages, but as we all know style is cyclical. The one thing I love about this is that you truly can take a piece that is meant to be casual and turn it into an antique inspired look.

Chanel is a perfect inspiration for this look, especially when we start thinking about layering the necklaces. This is a style that I think every woman can make her own because these necklaces have so many different styles. I have seen simple antique inspired animals, chains and pearls, and even simple stones like turquoise.

So how would you wear it?

-Focus on one specific look that is your “go to style” and pick out a long necklace that speaks to that style. Something not too heavy but that will make a statement against a simple long top or tunic.

-Get funky with it. Try an edgier office look and mix long chains and pearls over a structured white button down. Have the necklaces on the outside of the collar and you will have a look that is so “Devil Wears Prada.”

– Keep everything else simple. If you opt for a bigger, flashier necklace, keep the earrings simple (think studs). You don’t want to look like a gypsy and have a whole lotta “crazy” going on!

Remember ladies that the style can completely change depending upon what kind of long necklace you buy and how you wear it. Try different looks in the store to see which one you think is the most flattering on you, and don’t forget, this look can go from day to night so don’t be afraid to try the same necklace with your weekend outfits too!

The Top Ten Fall Must-Haves!

Fall is Here!  The leaves are starting to fall, temperatures are dropping, and I am SHOPPING! hahahaha!

This is my favorite season of the year.  The clothes are classier, they are structured better, and we look SO expensive.  The colors for the season are autumn colors combined with pops of bright colors. Bordeaux, jade green, mustard, cobalt blues, OMG!  We are going to look fabulous ladies!

Every season my ladies always get confused on how to look trendy without overdoing it – so I thought I’d help you out today with a list of my Top Ten Must-Haves for Fall 2012. Enjoy!

Spring Essentials

If you just cant get enough of spring, like me, you will love this list. I have done some research and come up with a few things that I feel are must haves for this spring so take heed ladies!

  1. Peplum Top: This is an essential because it is very trend-forward and it is sexy in a simple elegant way.
  2. White Shoes: Whether they are flats or heels, you have to have a pair of white shoes because they will be the basic color in your spring and summer palette. These will play a large role in being this summer’s neutral tone.
  3. Statement Earrings: I love statement earrings because you can really utilize these both day and night. They can be played up or down anytime, anywhere.
  4. Drop Waist Dress: This look is a little more daring but if you can find your unique way to wear it, this will more than likely be your go-to look for summer.
  5. Sleeveless Jacket: The sleeveless jacket started really in fall runway looks and slowly but surely we have accepted the look as a trend and now it is just a phenomenal trend. If you have great arms you can wear is sleeveless as is or if you are like me and want to cover some of that you can pair it with a simple V-neck light t-shirt. Still simple but maintaining that level of conservatism.
  6. Pastel Polish: I have been waiting for this look and it is finally here! Pastels are just taking over all aspects of fashion from tops to pants to jeans to shoes and now NAILS! Every skin tone looks amazing in some shade of pastel so you really can’t go wrong with this look.
  7. Printed Pants: I have seen this in so many ways around town and I must say I like it a lot. If you pair these prints with a complementary shade on top and a subdued flat or wedge, you will be able to really achieve this trend look.
  8. Drawstring Bag: This is an essential for vacation because you can carry everything in it and still have a stylized bag that is very appropriate, not to mention you can keep sand and water from easily ruining your items inside. I would find a bright color and stay away from neutrals in this bag just because you want it to be your statement piece.

Egyptian-Inspired Jewelry

I have noticed that the Egyptian inspired jewelry is really big this year and it can be worn as a statement necklace and really add a pop of color to a simple outfit. I have a couple of pictures of different ways you can wear this jewelry and how it would look in basic outfits.

Now remember you don’t want to do too much when you wear this jewelry. It is already a statement piece so adding too much in the outfit as far as prints or dramatic necklines is unnecessary and inappropriate. Keep it simple if you want that Elizabeth Taylor Glam!
